Before tutoring sessions formally begin, I would like to meet with you, the clients (i.e. parent(s) and student). During this initial meeting, I want to get to know you. In order to do this, I ask you to come prepared to discuss the following:
- Short and long term goals- What specifically do you want to accomplish with tutoring?
- Strategies- What has worked in the past and what has not?
- Suggestions- What are the student’s strengths and weaknesses?
- Collaboration- Do you want me to contact and collaborate with the student's teacher? If so, please bring contact information with you.
- Homework- Do you want me to assign additional homework?
- Assessment/Benchmarking- How often do you want progress monitored and reported?
- Contact Information- How can I contact you? Do you prefer a phone call or an email?
- Other- Do you have any other information that you would like to share with me about your child's education? Do you have any other questions, comments or concerns for me?
We will also be discussing some other items of business. For example, we will talk about the following:
- Schedule- I will begin and end each session at the designated time.
- Location- I will be tutoring only out of my home.
- Contract- You will need to sign a contract at the initial meeting.
- Payment- We will discuss payment options for each session.
- Distractions- I expect the student to come ready to work, without any distractions (i.e. toys, cell phones, etc.).
- Lessons- I will have lesson goals and objectives for each session.
- Classroom rules- I expect each student to follow the classroom rules.
- Materials- We will talk about any additional materials that may be needed.
- Open Door Policy- My door is always open for you to come and observe.
- Other- Restroom use and drinks/snacks.
